The Editing Process

For editing our final coursework product, we used Final Cut Pro, which I thought was much better than iMovie, as it just had so many other features that could be used to edit our film and make it look even better. I had not used Final Cut Pro before and it took me a while to get the hang of it, however when I did get the hang of it I found it really easy to use.

During the filming process we shot as much as we could as we knew this would be an advantage to us when it came to editing and it did. We found that having lots of footage was very useful to use as we could choose the best shots. However there were few problems with some of the footage we had shot. The shots we wanted to use at the beginning of our short opening were shot int he dark and we found that there was a problem with the continuity of our piece because it was very difficult to shoot the footage in the same darkness and when editing the shots together we found that the darkness of the shots were not continuous and this was a problem for us. Therefore to overcome this problem we shot the outside shots again, but this time in the daytime and we thought that we could put a night effect over our piece.

This was the only major problem we had with our footage, however it was easily solved. We also had another problem which was that one of our shots, the picking up of the can in the bathroom, ended really quickly and there wasn't alot of footage after the clip in order for us to cut and edit the clip together, however we did manage to edit the clip together.

When it came to adding sound effects to our piece, we used garageband. I had used garageband before, therefore I knew how to use the programme which made it easier for the group and also meant that we didn't spend lots of time trying to get the hang of the programme and that we coul just get on with adding sound to our piece. We found that on garageband there is not a wide range of sound effects. When trying to find a scream to use, we were running out of time therefore we did not have time to record a scream, which meant that the scream does sound a little unrealistic, but we had run out of time and didn't want to not use any sound effect for the screaming.
